Ouch, when I had my clio done, it cost about 50 pounds, don't know if there's anything special to be done on a F or TF though.

F and TF wheel beaering a full strip down of the complete hub assembly and then the bearing pressed out and new pressed in. (you can change the bearings without the use of a press but you need to know what you are doing to avoid damage)
A quote of £155 to replace is about right and if anything on the cheaper side to average going on national wide garage hourly rates.

If you have a noisy bearing then it is a new wheel bearing as noise does not go away with adjustment, only slight play can.

A rear wheel bearing on a clio is very simple and cheap to replace as you just remove the brake drum, remove the retaining circlip at the back of the drum, tap/press the bearing out, put new one in and new circlip and refit the brake drum, all done within 20 minutes Wink

I had the same advisory on mine in January.
Martin Clifton is going to repair it soon.
Is it a common problem for Fs or just the Trophy?

Very common on all F's and TF's.

The fronts are exactly the same and I have seen some very bad examples of excessive worn bearings, I even have the remains of one on my tool box which is the drive flange with just the outer bearing races on it all polished up as this was the only part of the bearing left on the front on an MGF as the owner was so careless they didn't know how bad it was and just carried on driving it. The outer racer(main bearing body) and all of the roller bearings had gone, I mean wear no longer pressent, the pop shaft joint was the only thing holding the flange(and wheel) to the car and this has worn up into the hub assembly and through the abs sensor affraid I'm sure I have some pictures somewhere of the damage so i can scare you all later Smile

Yes i am glad I did not attempt to do it either.
Martin Clifton did mine on Monday, he had to use 8 tonnes of pressure to remove the old bearing.

8 tonnes thats nothing, one of my bearing on Fizzbot didn't budge until my press went round to 32 tonnes Big eyes! btw I was trying to cover myself waiting for the hub to shatter, but luckily nothing did and just the bearing seal in the hub broke and then it just pressed out with ease Smile
