My MGF Trophy 160

Post  Captain Slow on 14/8/2012, 10:26 pm

The time has come unfortunately to sell my MGF Trophy 160. I've owned the car for around 18 months and had great enjoyment out of driving it; I'm in a situation where I've just got too many cars and not enough time/money to enjoy them all.

So, here goes, I'll list below the characteristics of the car with some pictures, and you guys PM me offering me money in exchange for said car. That's the way for sale adverts work, right?

MGF Trophy 160 finished in Trophy Yellow & related factory colour coded interior inserts, Momo leather gearknob. Non-ABS model.
First registered December 2001 (51 plate)
41,644 miles from new (lowest mileage Trophy I've seen for ages), may rise very slightly but not significantly as I have other cars to use...
MOT until February 2013, if it's a deal clincher I'm happy to put 12 months ticket on it
3 previous keepers
Part service history, I've got a lot of receipts/old MOT's from my ownership period and previous to this, as you will see below I've performed a lot of work on the car to keep it tip top
Wheels refurbished last February
None of the usual MGF rust issues!
Professionally undersealed
Cambelts, MLS head gasket, lower oil rail, water pump, under floor coolant pipes & associated gaskets/seals replaced last August at around 35k miles, all using genuine MG Rover parts.
I've serviced the car every 3-4k in my possession again using genuine MGR parts & the correct 10w40 semi synthetic oil. The VVC mech is very quiet for a VVC engine
Only mods are a Z&F remap (Stage 2), a NEW MG TF steering rack, ITG panel filter & braided brake hoses to improve pedal feel. DOT 5.1 brake fluid is used (changed this around a month ago together with oil & filter prior to my Italy trip). The pads are Apec pads-no brake fade even on a trackday/Stelvio pass, the front have around 40% remaining & the rear around 70%. Discs are in good condition.
Tyres are nearly new Toyo Proxes all around, they measure at 6mm on the rear & 5mm on the front.
I've added a standard MGF spare wheel for a bit of weight in the nose and reassurance over the inflation kit-the spare won't fit the front wheels due to the AP's but you can play swapsies with a rear wheel to get you out of trouble.
Geometry was set up by Wheels in Motion of Milton Keynes (very good reputation on Pistonheads) and they've done a cracking job-the steering wheel is straight as a die (I'm incredibly fussy about that!) and the car handles beautifully.
New front top ball joints & brand new TF steering rack fitted around 5k miles ago. No play in any other suspension components etc detected when I inspected the car on a workshop lift 2.5k miles ago before Italy.

The price of all this goodness and quality? £2,895, which if you look on Autotrader, is CHEAPER than some Trophys with double the mileage and I bet they won't be in as good condition.

I really hope this goes to an enthusiast who will cherish the car, keep it in the same condition & order I have and most importantly-enjoy it!

Pretty damn good price for that, which from what I remember is a show car, looks like new. I'm sure you get moaned at on the .org for being too dear, but I reckon at that price for that car its a bargain.

Shame I have the FDH now, as a trophy is next of my car collection list, when funds allow Smile

Iain, it'll be sad seeing it go from our club line-up (unless another member buys it). But it's definitely worth that money, so don't let it go for anything less! I just hope a real enthusiast gets to care for it like you have since you've had it.

As long as it's a large extra value meal...

If it was a concours FDH I would be knocking at your door and bugger the "too many cars" idea Laughing

I'm resisting at the moment, it'll be an opportunity to save a bit and also do the manifolds/Janspeed kit on the ZS I've always wanted to.
