Arrghhh setbacks...

Post  popeye on 3/1/2014, 3:19 am

Thought it was going to be a simple case of swap the head gasket, it wasn't.

Unfortunately, the car has over heated to the point where the head has annealed, metal has gone soft and it has severe fire ring damage.

Too deep too skim, and not worth it on a soft head Sad

Speak to Matt Parker. He may have a nice VVC head you could use at a reasonable cost. I'll give him a shout and see if he can post anything useful for you!

Yeah but he may have the 160 one. After all, most of his stuff is above standard!

Ah cheers. The original head had fire ring damage too deep to skim and the replacement ive got has also got fire ring damage.

So ive got 2 heads here but the metal has gone soft on both of them. The second has been skimmed to within an inch of its life.

A soft head is never a good thing  Embarassed

anyway as Rich mentioned I do have various spares and I'm sure I have a 160 head within the parts, I'll check and get back to you.

Cheers.

I got down to cylinder head services today, and they think one of them is viable for skimming so I left it there with them.
