Still an interesting point, this one. The original brochure for the MGF (The one with the plain red cover and a picture of a red MGF with a green MG logo projected on the ground next to it inside) lists Anthracite as the colour available, right next to good old Tahiti Blue, Ameranth, Volcane (note the 'e' and not 'o' - A factory typo possibly or everyone's got that one wrong since too) and British Racing Green, even though many will say it didn't come in until later. I don't know what the paint codes were as the brochure doesn't show it, but I remember sitting in the first one I saw in the colour in the showroom at Tanswells of Towcester and the boss referring to it as 'Antracite' even then...
Dunno!

Just thought I'd stir things up a bit... Laughing

it is different -charcoal paint has a proportion of lilac in it, whereas Anthracite has magenta.

So there!!

Anthracite and Charcoal are 2 different colours, and Anthracite came in later on. They are 2 different paint codes and when you see both colours together, they look completely different.

So, It's just made me hunt out my brochure (pub no. 5282) - the one with a green bar on the right hand side and a picture of a VVC wheel on the front and back. The colour choices in that are Flame Red, White Diamond, BRG, Charcoal, Platinum Silver, Nightfire Red, Tahiti Blue, Amaranth and Volcano. The date on my brochure says 1996.

My understanding of things is that Charcoal (LVD) was only around for a couple of years before it was dropped and replaced with Anthracite (different paint code, but can't remember what it is). Anthracite then remained in place for the mk2. So, if you see a MK2 F then it is Anthracite, if you see a MK1 F then it could be either Charcoal or Anthracite. However, put the 2 colours together, and there is no mistaking which is which!

Blimey, didn't want to start a row! Rolling Eyes I never said they were the same colour. Just quoting stuff from the archives. When I was in hospital in '95, the MGOC sent me some stuff to read on the pre-launch of the 'F. I was getting rather depressed at the time as my critical illness insurance had just paid me and there was plenty enough to buy one of the first off the line, but I did the sensible thing and paid off a few bills and put the rest aside to see me through my treatment. I won't tell you the colour I would have gone with... Wink

Marcus my dear fellow, a mate of mine from the company I used to work for (and soon to be an MGF owner) wants to know what Volvo you've got. He's got one too and plans to keep it alongside his 'F. I'm just hoping this isn't turning into a trend...
Shocked Laughing

No row has been started! You just got me pulling out my old brochure to check what it said in there!!! Laughing

The rest is my understanding of what happened with the dark colours in the lifecycle of the F!
