Re: 52mm throttle body

Hi !

After a year of a 52mm TB lying in a box along came a K&N airfilter for Xmas 2008 followed by a rover 820 air box from ebay.

They have all come together last weekend and after 5 hours work ( not by me ) it has all come together. Most of the 5 hours was spent removing the resonator box. Have you seen the workshop manual instructions to remove it ! A grinder was used to break it into pieces, but doubt this is recommended.

So how does it feel ? I can only say it does feel improved. When I first got the MGF it felt really quick compared to my other car. After a while I guess you get used to it and it and then that feels normal. After the mod it feels quick again. Could just be me putting my foot down more I guess !

Not used it much as one side has dropped a bit and rather than pay the hydragas tax again I'm going to get the car lowered on pins ,get the system checked and bits replaced at the same time. Then get the petrol smell investigated and the car checked on a T4. New seats, gear stick and some ally bits too. Wish my credit card luck !

regards
kevin

Sounds like a good set of mods you're planning there Very Happy

Have you noticed the additional induction roar....the noise alone is worth 10bhp in my opinion Laughing

Hi !

Yep, the roar when putting the foot down has been noticed Smile

It's good as it isn't noticable at normal acceleration : wouldn't want it all the time.

Guess with one of the sports exhausts the extra noise is present all the time ?

Have people's MPG really improved after these sort of mods ?

My MPG probably got worse as I keep burying the throttle to get the sound from the induction and exhaust, but theoretically it should get better yes Very Happy

How big is the 'standard' throttle body?, for comparison.

My ZS 120 is standard and disappointing, the engine is lazy and isn't keen to rev, my R8 214si MPI feels much livelier?

The noise is there Kevin every time you dip the accelerator and I have one of the quieter exhausts I think. It makes me accelerate more just to here it so I wouldn't think my mpg has improved at all but gone the other way Embarassed Laughing

Confirmed! And if it's like my Rover ZS (!), it's a flamin' plastic one too. A 52mm is on my shopping list...

It'll probably be the metal 48mm I think they started using them around MY2000 onwards IIRC.

At leats it wont be sticking, but you'll still get improved throttle response from a 52mm

Eating
Nope... More insurance just because of a badge, Smudge was half the price of the equivalent Zed but with more options, and ZSs don't have 52mm throttle bodies anyhow so I'd want to change it anyway!!!!

But I sill wouldn't mind a ZT, providing labour lose the next election and the tories reverse the tax increase plans... Rolling Eyes Cool
